Owner Nick Saathoff has sold seed since 2003 and opened his own operation here in Grant Park in 2014. The business is in his blood – his grandfathers and father were Pioneer Seed representatives over the years, and his uncle also operates an agency in Illinois.
Nick has a passion for farming and has always been involved in production ag. Partnering with a neighbor, he implements the latest in precision technology to maximize efficiency and minimize environment impact. They test products on their own farms – which allows him to make sound recommendations to his customers.
Customers count on Saathoff Seeds for providing exceptional service, trusted advice, and extensive knowledge of products, including how they perform in local soils.
Saathoff Seeds is proud to support the local ag community by partnering with the Manteno FFA chapter to fund dinner for local EMS personnel, providing sponsorships for the Tractors for a Cure organization, the Cystic Fibrosis golf outing and the Grant Park youth baseball and softball golf outing, as well as funding scholarships for the Kankakee County 4-H and youth foundation. Nick has earned a number of awards, including Leader of Distinction, Sales Growth Award, Corn Growth Award, and Pacesetter Award.
Nick and wife Missy have three children who all assist in many ways.
Missy is a teacher at Manteno Middle School and varsity women's assistant basketball coach. She keeps busy with school and family, but always makes time to assist where needed with Saathoff Seeds and the farm. She loves flipping seed boxes – just ask her!
Their daughter Kylie is active in basketball, volleyball and track, and is active in Manteno FFA and 4-H. She loves showing cattle at local and state fairs.
Son Cole is active in sports and enjoys hanging out with friends. He is also active in 4-H, showing market lambs. Cole is a huge help to the seed business and the farm.
Youngest son Colin is the comedian of the family, keeping them laughing between sports activities and hanging with friends. He’s always willing to lend a hand whenever it’s needed.
